The Harmful Effects of Traditional Concrete
When it comes to construction, concrete is a vital material with over 30 billion tons used per year. However, it poses a huge range of environmental problems throughout its life cycle.
From raw material extraction to production, transportation, and disposal, traditional concrete use is having an undeniable effect on the world around us. The cement manufacturing process alone is responsible for almost 9% of global carbon dioxide emissions globally. Additionally, the extraction of raw materials such as sand, limestone and gravel is decimating ecosystems, ravaging natural resources, and destroying habitats across the world.
Once in use, concrete disrupts natural water flow, its high thermal conductivity intensifies heat buildup in urban areas and with a long lifecycle – poses serious challenges when it needs to be disposed of. The impact of concrete doesn’t extend only to its applications. Its environmental footprint can be traced back to every stage of production, from resource extraction and manufacturing to usage and disposal. This is impacting global ecosystems, accelerating climate change and degrading our natural environment.
This doesn’t cut it. At Partanna, we believe concrete can and needs to be better.
As the demand for construction materials continues to rise, developers and builders are exploring other options and searching for sustainable alternatives.
Our carbon-negative, carbon-capture concrete can significantly reduce the core negative effects of concrete to promote a greener, more sustainable future.
What is Carbon-Capture Concrete?
Carbon-capture concrete uses mineralized CO₂ that’s embedded within the concrete to trap it forever.
Whereas conventional concrete emits CO₂ during manufacturing, carbon-capture concrete captures and stores CO₂, thus reducing its environmental impact. Carbon-capture concrete companies achieve this by integrating carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies into the concrete production process.
The process typically involves capturing CO₂ emissions from power plants, cement factories or other industrial sources before it is released into the atmosphere. The captured CO₂ is mineralized and then stored or used within the concrete mixture.
By capturing and storing CO₂ emissions, carbon-capture cement helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change. Whereas traditional concrete is responsible for almost 9% of global carbon emissions, carbon-capture concrete is an important step in reducing global carbon emissions.
However, there are significant hurdles to carbon-capture concrete’s wider adoption. These include high costs, energy requirements and technological limitations. These are in addition to the wider implications of carbon release during manufacturing and extraction of raw materials.
That’s why Partanna created our better-than-carbon-capture concrete: carbon-negative concrete. Whilst the premise is similar, the process through which our concrete absorbs CO₂ from the atmosphere during production negates the issues with traditional carbon-capture concrete.

The Disadvantages of Carbon-Capture Concrete
While concrete with carbon capture may seem like a promising solution to mitigating CO₂ emissions from the construction industry, it also presents disadvantages that need to be carefully considered.
High Operational Expenses
One of the main challenges is the high cost associated with implementing carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies. These technologies require significant investment in infrastructure, equipment, and operational expenses, which makes carbon-capture cement more expensive compared to traditional concrete, unlike our carbon-negative concrete.
Huge Energy Usage
The carbon capture process requires an enormous amount of energy. In itself, this leads to increased energy consumption and potential environmental impacts. As a result, the energy-intensive nature of CCS technologies may ultimately cancel out the environmental benefits of reducing CO₂ emissions.
Logistical Challenges
The scalability of carboncure concrete remains a concern. While some projects have demonstrated the feasibility of capturing CO₂ emissions from cement kilns or industrial sources, implementing CCS technologies on a larger scale comes with logistical challenges.
Whilst carbon-capture cement can help reduce carbon emissions from the construction industry, its disadvantages, including high costs, energy requirements, scalability issues and storage concerns, highlight a need for better solutions.
Enter Partanna’s carbon-negative concrete.
Carbon-Capture Concrete Without the Downsides
Partanna has redefined sustainable construction with our innovative solution: carbon-negative concrete. Unlike carbon-capture concrete, which aims to offset emissions, our carbon-negative concrete actively removes CO₂ from the atmosphere during and after production. This groundbreaking technology not only reduces the carbon footprint of materials used in construction projects but also actively reverses the effects of climate change.
Using recycled materials like brine and steel slag from other industries, diverting waste from landfills and reducing reliance on natural resources Partanna has created the world’s first carbon-friendly concrete. Through our blending process, these recycled ingredients undergo a chemical transformation that captures and sequesters CO₂, turning it into a carbon-negative material.
Unlike the energy-consuming process of carbon capture in concrete production, our blending process is conducted at ambient room temperature. The extraordinary result is a CO₂ absorbing concrete that functions just like trees. It actively absorbs CO₂ within its structure, preventing its release back into the atmosphere. Effectively, our concrete is carbon-capture concrete, without the downsides.
As a developer or builder, the alternative to carboncure concrete is here. Will your next project take an active step towards a sustainable future?
Offering exceptional performance and durability, our carbon-negative concrete meets the highest standards of construction and promotes environmental stewardship, whilst remaining affordable.
The Benefits of Our Carbon-Negative Concrete
Partanna’s concrete concrete offers unique advantages that put us at the forefront of sustainable construction and advanced material science.
Environmental Responsibility
Unlike traditional concrete or carboncure concrete, which contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, our concrete actively removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere throughout its life cycle. It combats climate change and reduces the overall carbon footprint of construction projects.
Recycled Ingredients
By incorporating recycled materials like brine and slag, our concrete is less reliant on natural resources and minimizes waste. This commitment to recycling not only benefits the environment but also supports the circular economy, making our concrete a sustainable choice when compared to concrete with carbon capture.
